My TY Camping Trip Experience
The camping trip was brilliant. I'm finding it hard to describe it in any other way. In previous years in our school, we were never given this kind of freedom to do what we please. The fact that we acted independently in what we did as a school group, was very refreshing. This freedom allowed me to bond with others from our year, that I had previously only talked to in certain circumstances.
I had gone camping a few times prior to our little adventure, so I was used to the limited amenities. The cold temperatures were a bit of a problem, but I had no issue with getting enough sleep.
But overall, I feel that I got to know my year a bit better during our three day break.

Eagles Flight Workshop - 21/09
When I, along with my group, entered the H-Block on Thursday, we had no idea what to expect. All I was told about the whole workshop before we entered, was that it was a problem solving group activity.
By the end of the workshop, I was suprised by how well all the groups taking part worked together.

Kairos Workshop
During the month of October, the whole of TY took part in the Kairos workshop.
During the workshop, the Transition Year students were tasked with creating a short video clip that consisted of recreations of our favourite TV shows and various news scenarios.
A week prior to the workshop, all of the classes needed to organise a script and format for their short show. In most cases, the students didn't form a full script before the workshop, but everyone had a rough idea of what they wanted to create.
On the day, after arriving to school, the students immediately took off to Maynooth.
Upon arriving to the recording studio, everyone had 40 minutes to complete their scripts.
While everyone else was putting their finishing touches on their pieces, the Director, Sound Mixer, Visual Editor and Camera Men were taken to the studio and shown how all the equipment worked.
Once everyone was up to scratch with what they were doing, the rehearsals of our little shows started. These ran very smoothly and allowed everyone to perfect their performances.
In the end, our year managed to create many great short shows, while really enjoying themselves.

Well-being Week
Wellbeing Week took place from 6-10 of November. The whole school participated in this event and on Monday morning ribbons were distributed to everyone in the year. Every year received different coloured ribbons which were developed by YSI to promote positive well-being, emotional awareness and happiness.
The same day, we received a speech from the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, and Alison Canavan. Simon Harris talked about the new and improved Food Pyramid and how following it's guidelines can keep us out of the hospital for longer. Alison Canavan spoke to us about how important good mental health is and how simple meditation and breathing techniques can improve our mental health dramatically.
The next day, Fourth Year had a talk on the topic of nutrition and how probiotic foods are very important to help digest other foods properly. During the talk, it was also mentioned that what we eat influences our mental health substantially.
To wrap up Wellbeing Week, the whole of Transition Year took part in the Aware Workshop. The presentation taught the students how to recognise the symptoms and causes of anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder.

Tiglin Talk
On the 12th of December we had a talk by Tiglin, an organisation that helps the homeless in the inner city. Two of the people who participated in the presentation were former addicts, which gave the whole situation a new perspective. The first hand witnesses of this horrible issue gave the matter a different depth. This was a very emotional talk, in which the members of the organisation reminisced about their experiences with addiction. I feel like this talk helped us understand the topic of homelessness a lot better and will push us to help Tiglin, and organisations like Tiglin, to fight against homelessness.
Dignity Bags
The Dignity Bags were a great way in which the whole school could help out Tiglin.
TY was in charge of packing the dignity bags. They contained items such as food, clothes and personal hygiene products. The whole year managed to pack around 150 Dignity Bags, which was a great achievement for the whole of YSI.

Carol Service
The Carol Service this year was very eventful for me. As usual, I was part of the choir and, additionally, I had a designated reading in Polish. I also had a small cameo solo performance towards the end of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, performed by our TY choir group. I believe everyone performed well and I think the Carol Service was a great success.
