ENGLISH
To be, or not to be, that is the question…
I would love to have the ability to write a Shakespeare styled monologue right now, but I'm afraid I haven't mastered the English language to that level just yet. However, English was a blast this year. This might be because we had no creative writing, which I despise, but it might also be because something finally clicked and my point of view on the subject has changed. I have enjoyed all the debates we've had in class this year and I hope my interest in English will make me a better, more whole person in the future.

Role Models Speech
I disagree with the statement that “sport stars are positive role models for the youth of today”. If any parents are listening to this speech, I'd like to convince you that your sons and daughters should not look up to sport stars.
Sport stars can potentially give young athletes false hope about becoming professionals.
Nowadays, sport stars are everywhere. In films, on social media and especially on advertisements. In all these places, athletes are shown playing their sport, working hard, and/or showing off their riches.
All this can fill an aspiring athlete with great determination to achieve this lifestyle. Teens can get so worked up on this dream, that they may dismiss any other potential career direction.
The thing that professional athletes rarely disclose, is the fact that there is a very small chance of making it big in sports. So many talents just never get noticed.
Another reason for why sport stars are not a positive influence, is the lack of professionalism of some athletes on social media.
Many athletes come from very poor and uneducated backgrounds. In many cases, when an athlete suddenly receives this influx of revenue, the money goes to their heads.
This could all be fine if what rich sports stars I did was kept all kept private, but thanks to the worldwide accessibility of social media, everyone with a mobile device can observe their antics on a daily basis.
Most of the audience who view the social media accounts of these sport stars are young impressionable children and teenagers.
These young minds are influenced by their extravagant behaviour, and consequently this may cause children to adopt a similar mindset to what they do in life.
My last reason for why sport stars are not a positive influence is the fact that some athletes cheat to achieve success.
Cheating in sport has been a big issue for a long time, and some sport stars have gotten away with cheating for a very long time, deceiving many of their admirers, who were inspired by these dishonest sport stars.
In conclusion, in many cases, sports stars are not good role models and shouldn't be looked up to. Aspiring athletes should observe their performances on the field, but shouldn't follow their social media accounts, which often show a lack of professional behaviour. Young athletes will, in my opinion, be better off if they listen to their coaches.
